EPDs are a standardized approach to environmental documentation that enables us to measure, document, and communicate the environmental impact of our products throughout their entire life cycle. The EPD offers a transparent, quantifiable, and comparable presentation of environmental performance based on a life cycle analysis (LCA), which assesses impacts from raw materials, over manufacturing and use phase until end of life treatment (cradle to grave).
The purpose of our EPDs is not only to deliver environmental documentation but also to strengthen our commitment to sustainability through reliable and verifiable information. This process begins with the collection of detailed data on raw materials, energy consumption, direct and indirect emissions, and ends with waste treatment (recycling, incineration, landfill). The information is then compiled into an EPD, which describes the product’s environmental profile in a standardized way. NKT's EPDs are created according to ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2 standards.
We believe that in a world where environmental regulations are becoming increasingly strict, EPDs can help ensure compliance with national and international environmental standards and laws. This can be particularly important for organizations that operate internationally or in highly regulated sectors.
